EU will not use Iranian gas

EU will not use Iranian gas.

“Iranian gas will not be used in the project of the Southern Gas
Corridor in the foreseeable future," US special envoy for Eurasian
energy issues Richard Morningstar told an international energy
conference in Istanbul, Iran News reports, quoting Turkish media. The
Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is the project within the Southern
Corridor intended to deliver Caspian gas to Europe. Morningstar noted
that the Obama administration is in favor of diversification of energy
suppliers, considering Iraq, Qatar and even Turkmenistan as potential
participants in the Southern Gas Corridor.

The main project of the Southern Gas Corridor is the NABUCCO natural
gas pipeline, bypassing Russia from Central Asia to the EU countries.
The joining of the northern part of Iraq to NABUCCO is being
considered at the moment. At the same time, the project's proponents
are trying to gain access to the reserves of Turkmenistan, in
particular by laying the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline (under the Caspian
Sea) and its adherence to the existing Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline.
The original main gas supplier for NABUCCO was meant to be Iran, but
the US and EU political sanctions against Iran have led to its
exclusion from project.
