The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has begun another discussion within the framework of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project. The meeting kicked off in Ankara today and will run until October, 7, reports Trend.
Kazimov Sharifov, the head of the Security And Emergency Situations Ministry, represents Azerbaijan at the discussions.
The meeting, being attended by representatives of all three participating countries, will consider issues of the possible movement of trains from the CIS countries on the railways of Turkey and Europe.
A new 105-kilometre branch railroad will be constructed as a part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway. About 76 kilometres will traverse Turkey, with 29 kilometres passing through Georgia. Moreover, an Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Marabda railway section will be reconstructed in Georgia to increase transport capacity to 15 million tons of cargo a year.
Work on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route will be completed in 2012.
