This year Iran expects to sign a contract or memorandum of understanding with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and intends to use this opportunity to boost its exports to Russia.
"I think that in 2015 we need to work on it, so that Iran has certain economic contacts with the EEU. We're working on it," RIA Novosti cited the Iranian ambassador to Russia, Mehdi Sanai.
According to him, there is another problem: the high customs tariffs for Iranian exports to Russia. Iran sends its products to Russia directly, rather than through the other republics that have tariff preferences. "These rates are high for Iran. Iranian businessmen often ask us to contribute to the reduction of tariffs, they cite the example of Russia's relations with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan," the diplomat said.
