Azerbaijan and the EU share a number of common interests, EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn said.
According to him, energy security is just one example. “Our cooperation through the Eastern Partnership is an important tool to work in partnership towards these shared interests,” Trend cited Hahn as saying.
The Commissioner said that the EU offers concrete support: "assistance of up to €94 million from the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) is available for Azerbaijan in the years 2014-2017, not counting regional cooperation.
The objective is to partner with Azerbaijan in supporting its own path to modernisation, focusing on regional development, education and justice reform."
"The intention is to visit Azerbaijan before the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, most probably in April," he said.
Hahn said that the Eastern Partnership Summit, which will be held in Riga on May 21-22, will be an occasion to jointly adjust the cooperation between the two partners.”
