The first gas supplies of the second stage of the gas condensate development field ‘Shakh Deniz’ in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian will start in 2017, Trend reports, citing a statement by RWE Supply&Trading senior official Michael Rosen.
He said that the partners of ‘Shakh Deniz’ have announced a tender for gas sales within the second phase of the project’s realization.
Rosen said that the company is also negotiating with Iraq and Turkmenistan as part of the Nabucco project.
The ‘Shakh Deniz’ development contract was signed on June 4, 1996. Its participants are BP (operator) – 25.5%, Statoil – 25.5%, NICO – 10%, Total – 10%, LUKOIL – 10%, TPAO – 9%, SOCAR – 10%.
The gas is currently transported to Georgia and Turkey using the South-Caucasian gas pipeline.
This year the plans are to extract 7.84 billion cubic m of gas. The maximum output should be 8.6-9 billion cubic m. According to estimates, the second stage of gas extraction should produce 25 billion cubic m of gas annually.
