The area of vineyards in Armenia dropped by 250 hectares (1.4%) in 2014, compared with 2013. The area of harvestable vineyards increased by 258 hectares (1.6%). The grape prepared this year has reached 184,000 tons, exceeding the harvest volume by over 70%.As of 2013, Armenia exported an average of 76.5% of all grape grown. The highest volume exported was in Vayots Dzor (86%) and Ararat (over 83%).In the Soviet times, Armenia used up about a quarter of grape grown, a third of the volume was exported to other republics, mostly to Russia. In 2014, exports of cognac reached about 97%, wine – about 35%. The economic downturn in Russia has a negative effect on exports of grape from Armenia.
