Russia starts census

Russia has started the All-Russian Census-2010, which will continue until October 25. The census started in the Kamchatka Territory, RIA Novosti reports, citing the territory’s government press-service.

5.5 million rubles were spent from the federal budget for the census in the Kamchatka Territory. The money was spent on training staff, transport and other expenses.

The head of Magadan statistics Nina Tseytler said that over 500 census takers in Kolyma started work at 9.00 am (local time). Most of the census takers are students and pensioners. But confidentiality of information is guaranteed. Computers and servers are well protected. Notes with names are separated from personal information.

The head of the Russian Statistics Service, Alexander Surinov, said that the country had 458,500 census stations. 616,000 people were trained, ITAR-TASS reports.

The results of the census of 2002 were used to develop almost all the main economic documents. The first results of the census of 2010 will be concluded in April 2011. The final results will be available in the fourth quarter of 2012. They will be published in late 2013. An official website with a micro-database will be open to the public.
