Russia may use Turkey’s agricultural experience

Alexander Korbut, vice president of the Russian Grain Union, said in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza that Russian farmers should develop agriculture and make their business more competitive. Turkey’s experience, according to the official, is fruitful and has clear goals. As an example, he mentioned Russia’s South, where grain was produced for exports was more valuable than French wheat.

Korbut reminded that Turkey was one of the largest producers of flour, most of which is produced from Russian grain. Turkey has minimal barriers for business, offers state support. The expert noted that Brazil exported food worth $100 billion a year. Russia, in his opinion, should not underestimate the role of exports in the development of agriculture.

Last year, Krasnodar Territory harvested 9,160,000 million tons of grain and legumes at a yield of 55.5 centner per hectare, exceeding the volume in 2013 by 1 million tons. The Kanevsky, Leningradsky, Bryukhovetsky, Vyselkovsky, Kavkazsky, Primorsko-Akhtarsky, Timashevsky, Ust-Labinsky and the Kalininsky Districts and farms on the outskirts of Krasnodar produced 60 centners. Some farms made over 70 centners of grain. Tikhoretsk farmer Andrey Burdin took the yield to 80.5 centners.

The administration of Krasnodar Territory and Governor Alexander Tkachev supported the production of wheat and barley. Subsidies exceeded 8 billion rubles. Scientists, authorities and specialists of the Ministry for Agriculture and farmers made their own contributions.

Stavropol Teritory collected a record of 8.8 million tons of grain, or 7.9 million tons excluding corn, exceeding the volume in 2013 by 1.6 million tons. Overall, the yield increased by 23%.
