Crimea's Massandra plants first new vineyards

Crimea's top winemaker Massandra has planted new vineyards for the first time in 20 years, according to Oleg Podolko, the head of the territorial office of the Russian president in the republic, Interfax reports.

21 hectares of vineyards were planted. Yanina Pavlenko, the former acting director general of the company, has become the incumbent director general. Nikolai Boyko, her predecessor heading the factory since the 1990s, lost the post due to violations in the wine trade.

Collectable Massandra wine of the 1940-50s was worth 600 rubles per bottle, Boyko was selling it for 100,000 or 80,000 rubles per bottle with the help of his relatives. 64,000 bottles in the last shipment were sold for excessive prices.
