Russian gas monopolist Gazprom will be a member of the consortium for the realization of the Trans-Afghan gas pipeline project, RIA Novosti reports, citing Russian Vice-Premier Igor Sechin, the supervisor of the fuel and energy company.
He said that the topic had been discussed with Turkmenistan. In particular they had discussions about Gazprom’s participation in the TAPI pipeline (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India), Sechin said.
The TAPi project is being developed to provide India with gas from Central Asia, but the war in Afghanistan prevented the realization of the plans.
Concerning Gazprom’s part in the project, Sechin said that the company has various proposals and their forms may differ depending on the way the partners see this cooperation.
