The Fifth International Energy Week has started work in Moscow. Vestnik Kavkaza reported earlier that representatives of the world"s largest energy organizations, national and foreign oil and gas companies are taking part. Russian Minister of Energy Sergey Shmatko made a speech at the opening, noting the importance of further
cooperation as a condition for international energy security.
He mentioned the project of the convention for international energy security which Russia plans to popularize. The Russian side announced its points within the work of the working group for modernizing the Energy Charter in early October and at an OSCE session in September. The convention was developed by the Russian Ministry of Energy, according to the national energy security strategy proposed by President Dmitry Medvedev in April 2009 in Helsinki. The document was introduced to the government, but has not been published yet. The new Russian energy policy offers development of fuel balances of
demand and offer and proposals for long-term prospect. Shmatko said that the forum is a perspective platform for discussions of the most topical issues of cooperation of gas exporters.
The minister said that Russian energy priorities are efficient fuel
and energy complex development and strengthening of Russian
international position on world energy markets. He mentioned the state
program for energy efficiency improvement and the energy sector
development program until 2030. Shmatko said that Russia will develop
gas fields in Yamalo-Nenetskiy autonomous district. The government
approved construction of a liquid gas complex. Special attention was
paid to reduction of energy-intensive industry and implementation of
renewable sources of energy.
