At a meeting on Tuesday, the deputies of the Armenian National
Assembly, despite protests from the opposition, completed the first
reading of amendments to the law on the minimum monthly wage. The law
proposes raising the minimum wage from the current $83 to about $90,
Arka reports.
"The minimum wage is a guarantee to employees from the Government of
Armenia", said Artur Grigoryan, the Minister for Labour and Social
Affairs of Armenia.
The minister added that he proposes amending the Law on Income Tax,
increasing the tax-free salary sum from $83 to 90.
A member of the parliamentary opposition "Heritage" faction, Armen
Martirosyan, stated that Heritage has also contributed a bill to the
National Assembly to increase the minimum wage to more than $125.
According to him, the bill shows the sources of funding for this
increase. The deputies said that the faction will not vote.
"We are not against an increase in wages, but the increase suggested
by the government is too small for the current situation," he
underlined.
