Veterinaries plan to slaughter all pigs on a farm in the
Staropominskaya Cossack village of Krasnodar Territory where African
swine fever was registered, RIA Novosti reports, citing the
press-service of the local department of the Federal Service for
veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.
The Ministry of Emergencies reported a fall of livestock number on
Bolshevik agricultural cooperative on Monday. Experts of Kropotkin
territorial veterinary laboratory registered African swine fever.
The farm has approximately 7,000 pigs. Over 3,500 pigs were killed and
burned on Friday.
An emergency situation regime was introduced in the Starominsk region.
African swine fever was first registered in 1903 in South Africa.
Domestic and wild pigs are sensitive to the disease. The virus is
spread by physical contact. It is of no threat to humans but results
in enormous economical damage.
