On January 1, 2011 deep-frozen bird meat will be forbidden for retail
sale and processing, Vesti reports, citing the head of the Russian
consumer rights service, Gennady Onishenko.
He said that it does not matter whether it is meat produced in Russia
or imported.
The decision was made in 2008, Onishenko reminded, adding that Russian
meat makers are ready for the new conditions.
He emphasized that bird meat in frozen form (up to -10 or -20 C)
preserves nutrition. Deep freezing and unfreezing reduces nutrition.
Refrigerated meat transport will improve modern logistics and
technology, Onishenko said that frozen bird meat has already been
banned for baby food production.
