Tbilisi has signed a memorandum between Turkey’s Kolin Construction
company and the Georgian Ministry of Energy to construct a cascade of
hydro electric plants on the Texura River (Samergelo Region, Western
Georgia), Trend reports.
The document was signed by the Energy Minister, Alexander Khetaguri,
and the head of the company’s board, Nadzhi Kologlu.
Four companies expressed interest in the project – Turkey’s Limak and
Kolin Construction, Germany’s Balgioglu Energy Resources and Canada’s
Charthage Energy.
The total output of the four hydroelectric plants is expected to reach
a minimum of 105.7 megawatts, producing 490 million kilowatts
annually. The cascade consists of the Erdzhia, Tskhimara, Nobulevi and
Lechakha power plants.
The construction will last 4 years, the project expects $150 million
in investment.
Khetaguri said that the project provides additional electricity,
export income and employment for the local population. Part of the
electricity will be exported to the EU.
