Georgia is increasing food imports for the winter, Business Georgia
reports, citing the Resonansi paper.
In 2009, Georgia imported food worth $950 million. In the first 9
months of 2010 it has already imported food worth $615 million. This
indicator may exceed $1 billion, experts say.
In 2006 Georgia imported food worth $500 million, in 2008 - over $750
million. This shows that Georgian food production efficiency has
dropped. A low harvest due to this year's heat and other disasters
have had a negative effect as well.
