Tbilisi will increase the price for water per person by 0.75 lari,
making it 3.15 lari per month. The new prices will come into force on
December 1 and will not be changed until 2015, Business Georgia
reports.
The decision was made at the Administrative Office of the Georgian
government at a session of the National Commission for Energy and
Water Regulation, with the participation of Prime Minister Nika
Gilauri and Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava.
The price will remain unchanged at 2.4 lari for the population of
Tbilisi that gets water according to schedule. This will allow the
water company of Tbilisi to improve its infrastructure and switch to a
24-hour water supply system, Government Speaker Niko Mchedlishvili
said.
Approximately 10,500 socially unprotected citizens of Tbilisi will pay
half price for water, the other half will be paid by the mayor’s
office.
Organizations and companies will still have to pay 4.4 lari per cubic
meter of water.
The last time the water price in Tbilisi was doubled in January 2007,
when the company ‘Tbilisi Water’ was sold and the new owner said that
the price per person would increase to 2.95 lari in 2010.
