Armenia n mobile operator K-Telecom (a brand of Vivacell-MTS), sister
company of Russia's largest mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS),
will officially launch the 4G network in Armenia using LTE technology,
RIA Novosti reports.
The new network will be launched in a test mode. In February 2011 the
company plans to switch to commercial exploitation of the network in
Yerevan and then in all Armenian regions.
The LTE network in Armenia costs $17 million.
The license, received in mid-November and lasting until November the
4th 2019, is worth $2.75 million.
LTE is a fourth-generation technology (4G) and is the next generation
of the broadband mobile access used by MTS in Armenia 3.5G/HSPA and
HSPA_ technology. 4G provides traffic of up to 100 megabits per second
and 50 megabits per second from the recipient.
MTS plans to have the speed of LTE exceed the speed of 3G 10-fold.

networks. MTS became the first operator to launch 4G in Uzbekistan in
July 2010. The network works on 2.5-2.7 GHz.
