Armenia will announce the results of the search for uranium in late
2011, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan
said, RIA Novosti reports.
Experts say that Armenia may have reserves of 30,000-60,000 tons of uranium.
A geological search in Lernadzor in the Sunik Region in the south of
Armenian, not far from the city of Kadzharan, is being carried out by
the Armenian-Russian Ore Mining Company. The government of Armenia
permitted the search for uranium for five years in April 2009.
The minister said that after estimations of the uranium reserves they
will start evaluating the efficiency of its extraction and the
technology to be used.
The Armenian-Russian Ore Mining Company was established in September
2008, after negotiations with the Russian uranium holding
Atomredmetzoloto, to search for Armenian uranium reserves. Russia
provided $3 million for the project.
