Iran to build 20 power plants using private investors

The deputy director general of Iran's 'Tavanir' electric company
Golyam Reza Khoshkhalk declared that the construction of 20 power
plants has been handed to the private sector. He noted that Iran needs
a surplus of 5 thousand megawatts annually, Iran News reports, citing
IRIB News.

Khoshkhalk noted that Iran has 24 million consumers of electricity
using 170 billion kilowatt per hour. The number of consumers rises by
1.2 million annually.

The energy consumption per person in Iran is 2.5 times higher than the
world average. Cancelling subsidies and setting market prices for
electricity would benefit the country's electric economy.

He said that the Ministry of Energy has a new approach to the
electricity consumption by building mini-power blocks. There were
licenses issued for the mini-block construction, and their overall
production will reach 13 thousand megawatts.
