Cargo turnover in Georgian ports in the first quarter of 2010
increased by 36.9% compared with the same period of 2009, Business
Georgia reports. The figures were reported at a press-conference today
by the head of Unitary Transport Administration, Levan ChiChinadze.
This concerns the ports of Batumi, Poti and Kulevi. Statistics show a
total of 4,306,583 tons of cargo turnover in the first quarter of
2009, which this year amounts to 5,898 619, which is 1,592,036 tons
(36.9%) more.
In the first quarter of 2010 Poti had 1,018,204 tons of cargo, Batumi
532,735 tons, Kulevi – 41 097 tons. Dry cargo turnover in the first
quarter of 2009 amounted to 6,322,026 tons, liquid – 9,511,789 tons,
containers – 177,800 tons.
Comparible indicators of the first quarter of 2010 were 10,041,512,
25,175,600 and 2,511,600. Chichinadze explains that the growth is due
to the liberal tax system, stability in the country and
anti-corruption measures.
