Underwater segment of TASIM in the Caspian Sea will be built already this year

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have agreed to build an underwater segment of Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM), as the Minister of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan, Ali Abbasov, has informed.

"The signing of the contract with Kazakhstan is expected to happen in the first half of the year, and by the end of the year construction works may begin" – quotes RIA Novosti.TASIM project provides for the creation of a main transit track from Frankfurt to Hong Kong, which is going to bring together the major centres of information exchange in Europe and Asia, that would stretch through the territory of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and to Germany.Plotting of the second alternative northern transit track is scheduled to be on the territory of Russia, Ukraine and Poland.Currently, such countries as Russia (represented by "Rostelecom"), Kazakhstan (represented by “KazTransCom”), Turkey ( represented by “TurkTelecom”) and China (represented by “ChinaTelecom”) are involved in the TASIM project. Azerbaijan is represented by the Center for International Relations and the Ministry of  Communications and High Technologies.The project objectives are to reduce poverty level and to accelerate of economic growth. Furthermore, it may play a fundamental role in the region's development.
