Russian and Turkish foreign ministers meet

Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu has met with his
Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The ministers supervised the first
meeting of the Joint Group for Strategic Planning, the Russian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.


The joint group is a mechanism of for talks on the international
schedule within the framework of the High Level Cooperation Council,
headed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Turkish Prime Minister
Recep Tayyip Erdogan.


Most attention was paid to preparations for the second session of the
Russian-Turkish High Level Cooperation Council.


The ministers also compared notes on the most topical international
and regional issues, including European security, a Middle East
settlement, Iran's nuclear program, the situation in Iraq and the
state of affairs in the Balkans and Trans-Caucasus.


Davutoglu and Lavrov noted the dynamic development of cooperation
between Russia and Turkey and their strategic partnership.


The ministers discussed trade-economic cooperation, including
cooperation in energy. The two countries are realizing major projects,
such as the nuclear power plant in Akkuyu, the South Stream gas
pipeline and the Samsun-Ceyhan oil pipeline.
