The head of the Main Police Department of Stavropol Territory,
General-Lieutenant Alexander Gorovoy, has met authorized envoys from
North Caucasus republic, heads of communities and national public
organizations of peoples living in the region, Yuga.ru reports.
The press-service of the Main Police Department said that the sides
discussed cooperation with communities to prevent inter-ethnic
conflicts, improve tolerance, develop a culture of behavior for
students and respect for traditions of other peoples.
Stavropol Territory has 118 nationalities and 25 ethnic groups. The
population increases annually through migration. Over 25,000 migrants
arrived last year. This increases inter-ethnic tensions, caused by
social-economic problems in the region, primarily by unemployment and
low living standards, the press-service states.
Gorovoy noted that there were seven conflicts, involving various
ethnic groups, prevented by police in 2010.
The police chief said that facts of inter-ethnic conflicts should not
be kept secret. The sides praised the initiative to consolidate
efforts against crime and to hold meetings with students. They
emphasized on the importance of regular councils and meetings between
students and local authorities and public figures of the North
Caucasus regions.
The sides agreed that the police will inform communities, rectors'
offices and law-enforcing structures of the North Caucasian Federal
District about violations and crimes committed by students.
