The World Economic Forum in Davos opened with a minute of silence for
the victims of the terrorist attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport,
requested by the founder and executive chairman of the forum,
Professor Klaus Schwab, ITAR-TASS reports.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has confidence that terrorism will
not bring Russia to its knees. He believes that the terrorist attack
was organized to prevent him from visiting the forum.
The president said that the world community will unite against
terrorism and affect the social-economic basis of extremism, RIA
Novosti reports.
Medvedev said that there is no cure for terrorism, but solidarity and
concerted actions will determine the success in fighting the common
threat, especially in globalization. The measures needed to be taken
include coping with poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and orphans.
Medvedev emphasized that restoration and further development of the
global economy will be ineffective unless terrorism, extremism and
intolerance are defeated.
He admitted that the events caused him to reduce his presence at the
forum. The president will return to Moscow on Wednesday night.
