The Turkish premier and leader of the ruling Justice and Development
Party Recep Tayyip Erdogan supports switching to a bipartisan
parliament system, calling it more efficient, RIA Novosti cites Aksham
paper as saying.
Turkey has a multi-party system. Only parties with 10% of votes may
enter parliament.
Erdogan mentioned the benefits of the US bipartisan system, which
takes less time to pass bills.
The premier's statement was made on the eve of the coming Turkish
parliamentary elections in June.
Aksham reminded that Erdogan spoke for reducing the entrance limit. He
said that only a single-party government may give economic stability
in the country.
Erdogan's party has been in power in Turkey since November 2002. It
received 47% at the latest parliamentary elections in June 2007 and
formed a single-party government.
The premier expects 46% of votes in the coming elections.
