OSCE to monitor Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line - 2

The OSCE will monitor the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line of forces
near the Chemenli village of the Agdam District in Azerbaijan on
February 8, Trend reports.


Monitoring from Azerbaijani side will be carried out by the assistants
of the personal representatives of the OSCE chairman Christo Christov
and William Pryor.


Monitoring from the opposite side will be held by the coordinator of
the personal representative of the OSCE chairman Imre Palatinus and
field assistant Jaslan Nurtazin.


The conflict between the two South Caucasus states started over the
territorial claims of Armenia towards Azerbaijan in 1988.
Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts, 20% of Azerbaijani
territory, are occupied by Armenia. The concluded a cease-fire
agreement in May 1994, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group and
the co-chairmanship of Russia, France and the USA.


The UN Security Council passed 4 resolutions on freeing
Nagorno-Karabakh and the occupied territories. The resolutions have
not been fulfilled yet.
