The acting President of Tunisia Fouad Mebazaa announced extension of his terms of office and holding elections on July 24, he said on Thursday, Reuters reports.
In a TV interview he said that his terms expire on March 15, yet they were extended. The elections on July 24 will determine the council members to develop a new Constitution, RIA Novosti reports.
Tunisia had a revolution on January after a month of disorders. President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali left the country with his family and moved to Saudi Arabia.
The Constitutional Court appointed Speaker Fouad Mebazaa as the acting leader. Prime Minister Rashid Al-Ghannushi was ordered to form a temporary coalition government to prepare presidential elections. He resigned this Sunday. Fouad Mebazaa replaced him with Beji Caid Essebsi.
