The Chechen Parliament unanimously approved Ramzan Kadyrov as head of the republic for a second term at an extraordinary session on Saturday, RIA Novosti reports. The new term is to last 5 years.
All 41 deputies of the Parliament attended the meeting and voted in favor of the decision. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev personally proposed the candidature of the current head of the Chechen Republic to the Republic’s parliament.
Ramzan Kadyrov thanked the Russian President for the trust put in him and pointed out that he intends to continue the policies of his father, Akhmad Kadyrov, aimed at the economic and social prosperity of the Chechen Republic as an integral part of Russian Federation.
Ramzan Kadyrov was elected for his first term on March 2, 2007.
