Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree introducing a ban on financial operations with the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his family members in Russia, Interfax reports.
This includes Muammar Gaddafi, his daughter Aisha, his sons Hannibal and Hamis.
Lenta.ru reports that the Libyan leader and his relatives have no permission to enter Russia or use it as transit. This concerns Aisha, Gaddafi’s sons, the national security advisor Mutassim Gaddafi, special forces commander Saadi Gaddafi, director of the Gaddafi Fund Seif al-Islam Gaddafi and the leader’s first cousin ad-Dam Sayit Muhammed.
The sanctions concern the head of the communications department of the revolutionary committees Al-Bagdadi Abdulkader Muhammed, head of the personal security of Gaddafi Dibri Abdulkader Yusef, director of the foreign security organization and head of the foreign intelligence service Dord Abu Zyd Umara, Defense Minister Jaber Abu Bakr Yunes and secretary of the housing and utilities service Matuk Matuk Muhammed. They are suspecting of using force against protesters.
The protests in Libya have been ongoing since February 15. Benghazi is the center of the opposition. Gaddafi is using air forces against the rebels.
Russia has evacuated its citizens from Libya, according to a resolution of the UN Security Council.
