Vladimir Churov has been re-elected as the head of the Russian Central Electoral Commission for five more years. The decision was announced by the chairman of the accounts commission Nina Kulyasova.
She said that 14 voted for and 1 against Churov.
Churov has been heading the CEC since 2007. He entered the new CEC staff according to a presidential quota. The terms of office of the new staff was switched from 4 to 5 years last year.
The new CEC staff had its first session with elections of the chairman, his deputies and a secretary. Churov was the only candidate for the position.
The CEC staff consists of 15 people – 5 from the State Duma (lower house of parliament) and five elected by the Federal Council from candidates introduced in regions. 5 members are appointed by the president. Each has a vote.
