International Court of Justice rejects Georgian complaint against Russia

The International Court of Justice said that it is not authorized to consider the case brought by Georgia against Russia, RIA Novosti cites France Press as saying.

Mass military activities started in the Republic of South Ossetia on the night of August 8, 2008. Georgian forces entered Tskhinvali. Russian forces forced the Georgian forces out of the city. Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off all diplomatic relations with Moscow and called the two breakaway republics “occupied territories”.

Tbilisi filed a case against Russia at the International Court of Justice on August 12, 2008. The charges said that Russia had violated the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (1965) three times within the period 1990-2008.
