Baku to host World Inter-Cultural Dialogue Forum

Baku will host the World Inter-Cultural Dialogue Forum on April 7-9, Trend reports.


Azerbaijan is a unique state, where various cultures and civilizations of North and South, East and West cross. It is based on the inter-civilization dialogue of the UN General Assembly (November 2001), the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005), the ISESCO Convention on Diversity of Cultures (2004), a declaration and the action plan of the meeting of CE member-states, the CE White Book (May 2008), Baku declaration on inter-culture dialogue. The forum is held with the support of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The president announced the forum at the 65th UN GA in New York on September 23, 2010. The forum is supported by UNESCO, UN Civilization Alliance, the Council of Europe, North-South Center of the CE, ISESCO, Euronews.


The forum will consider concept, management, political and practical aspects of inter-culture contacts.


Aliyev will make the opening speech. PACE head Mevlut Cavusoglu, Director General of ISESCO Abdulaziz bin Osman Al-Twaijri will make speeches as well.
The first forum session will be supervised by Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and the UN advisor for Civilization Alliance Jean Christov Bas. It will stress on inter-culture understanding and cultural differences for achieving peace and development.
The second session will be supervised by the Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abdulfas Garayev and head of the CE directorate for culture and nature heritage Robert Palmer. The main topic is culture, art an heritage.


The third session will be chaired by the President of the Heydar Aliyev Fund Mehriban Aliyeva and director of the UNESCO section for culture and inter-culture dialogue Catherine Stan. Sides will discuss the role of women in inter-culture dialogue.

The forum will see world leaders and public figures, heads of international organizations, heads of states and governments, ministers of culture and ambassadors, PMs and diplomats, experts and specialists in culture, officials from NGOs, media and journalists.


Euronews will be a media partner. The forum will be held within the framework of the Baku Process, launched in December 2008. The process is aimed at establishing a platform for inter-culture dialogue and discussion of universal values.
