Former Egyptian president to be taken to prison hospital

The Prosecutor General of Egypt, Abdel Magid Mahmoud, has ordered Egyptian ex-president Hosni Mubarak to be taken from Sharm el-Sheikh to the Tora prison hospital, RIA Novosti reports.

He clarified that a medical assessor, Ahmed as-Subai, had been appointed. The hospital may need over a month to be equipped. 82-year-old Mubarak suffers from arrhythmia and may need intensive treatment at any time.

Mubarak will be temporarily confined at a military hospital. He is currently guarded at a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, where he was taken on April 12 after being questioned by the prosecution.

The prosecutor general ordered the detainment of Mubarak and his sons for 15 days, under accusations of corruption, abuse of power, illegal self-enrichment and provoking of aggression against protesters in January-February 2011. Their detention was prolonged by 15 more days.

Medics say that Mubarak’s condition is unstable and there is no need to move him to a different medical center.
His sons, Alya and Gamal, are at the Tora prison in Cairo.

Hosni Mubarak resigned on February 11, after 18 days of protests in Egypt, followed by disorders and an economic and security crash. Over 800 people died and thousands were injured in civil disorders.
