Iranian foreign minister schedules meeting with Egyptian colleague

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi will meet with his Egyptian counterpart, Nabil al-Arabi, at a meeting of foreign ministers of member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, which will take place in June in Indonesia. This was stated by the head of the center aimed at protecting Iran's interests in Egypt, Mustaba Amani, the Iranian news agency MEHR reports.

Egypt is the current chair of the NAM.

Iran broke off diplomatic relations with Egypt in 1980, after President Anwar Sadat signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979 and Cairo offered asylum to the deposed Iranian Shah, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi.

Relations between Iran and Egypt have improved since the overthrow of the regime of Hosni Mubarak.
