Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said that targeting Muammar Gaddafi and his relatives is going far beyond the authority of sanctions of the UN Security Council, RIA Novosti reports.
The Libyan government said that the air raid on Tripoli resulted in deaths of Gaddafi's 29-year old son Saif Al-Arab, three grandchildren, several friends and relatives on May 1. The Libyan leader and his wife were unharmed.
Lavrov said that there will be repercussions unless a cease-fire is agreed on immediately. The African Union and the UN may help. Five African presidents have visited Tripoli and Benghazi.
The Russian minister fears that the country may split into two or more formations. Negotiations must start immediately. Lavrov spoke out against using force.
The full interview with Lavrov will be available in the Moskovskiye Novosti on Thursday.
