The First Lady of Georgia, Sandra Ruvols, is on a visit to France, where she will attend a plenary session of the Global Parliamentary Summit, organized by the European Parliamentary Forum and make a speech at the Senate, Georgia Online reports.

Paris is hosting a summit entitled “Girls and Population, the Forgotten Drivers of Development”. The summit is held 10 days prior to the G8 meeting in France. MPs and officials of governments of over 60 states are participating.

The summit is aimed at drawing the attention of the G8 to some of the most problematic issues, including rapid population growth and the role of young girls and women in developing society.

The meeting also urges governments to support international organizations, scientific and civil societies to promote protection of women’s rights, especially of girls. Special attention will be paid to the condition of 600 million women and girls living in various states and the positive socio-economic changes that would occur from an improvement of their condition.
