On Saturday the Georgian National Assembly opposition organization called upon Georgians to start an uprising. This action was considered by the leaders of the movement as a new revolution. Nino Burdzhanadze, a former parliamentary speaker, is the leader of the National Assembly. The organization is supported by several public figures, such as Chabua Amiredzhibi, a writer, and Nona Gaprindashvili, a world chess champion.
The first rally took place on Freedom Square, where in 2003 Nino Burdzhanadze and Mikheil Saakashvili organized a rally in order to force president Shevarnadze to resign. Now Burdzhanadze's supporters are demanding Saakashvili's resignation.
President Saakashvili is now paying an official visit to Hungary, meaning the country's authorities are staying calm. However, it's already evident that a new uprising has begun. The way it will end depends on the Georgian people.
