Russian border guards declare that the border post on the
Russian-South Ossetian border, at the Mamison pass, has been operating
since May 6th, refuting the declaration of Georgian deputy head of the
border police Koba Bochorishvili that the Russian side could not open
a border post on the territory of a former meteorological station due
to deep snow, RIA Novosti reports.
The head of the press-service of the Border Department of the Russian
FSB in North Ossetia Alexander Solod said on Tuesday that a border
post was set up in the Mamison pass on May 6th to improve security in
the south of Russia. He added that they had a communication session on
May 11th at 12.00 Moscow time. The post did not record any border
violations, it has enough supplies, the weather is snowy and foggy.
Snow depth is about 2.5 m. Air temperature is -10 C.
According to Russian border guards, there was reconnaissance on April
30th to determine the conditions for setting a post. A border post was
established after 8 hours of climbing to a height of 3000 metres to
the former meteorological station.
Solod recalled the agreement signed between Russia and South Ossetia
on 30th April 2009 on cooperation on protecting the state borders for
5 years. Russian border guards have been protecting the borders for 2
years.
