G8 summit concluded with declaration

The G8 summit in Deauville (France) has been concluded with a declaration on liberty and democracy. 25 pages of the declaration express positions on solidarity with Japan, development of Internet, problems with global economy, trade, innovations, ecology and climate changes, nuclear security, international peace and security, including regional problems such as the Middle East and North Africa, the Korean Peninsula and Iran, Russia 24 reports.

G8 leaders expressed support for Russia’s joining the WTO in 2011 and praised ratification of the START Treaty by Russia and the USA.

Concerning international problems, the G8 expressed anxiety with the actions of Iran, that continues violating resolutions of the UN Security Council and demands of the IAEA.

The declaration underlines that G8 leaders do not recognize Iran’s right for the nuclear program, unless it fulfills international obligations. Despite meetings with officials of China, France, Germany, Russia, UK, USA and the EU and their diplomatic efforts, as well as Resolution 1929 of the UN Security Council, no results were reached and Iran has not started a real dialogue without preliminary conditions.

G8 leaders approved the loan of $20 billion to Arab states that suffered from mass disorders this year. The events are comparable with the events in Central and Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The declaration praises the Egyptian authorities for addressing the IMF and development banks and the request of Tunisia for joint credit policy.

Banks may provide loans worth $20 billion, including €3.5 billion from the European Investment Bank for Egypt and Tunisia for 2011-2013.

The World Bank will provide Egypt and Tunisia with loans worth $6 billion.

G8 leaders express concern with violation of the human rights in Iran. They urged Iran to stop violence against the population and respect international obligations it took up.

The European Union passed sanctions against 32 Iranian officials for their violation of the human rights. The sanctions include freezing of their bank accounts and a ban on their visits to EU states. The EU Diplomatic Chief Catherine Ashton expressed anxiety with the worsening situation in Iran. Repressions against its citizens, human rights activists, lawyers, journalists, bloggers, ethnic and religious minorities and opposition continue.

The leaders also condemned North Korea for violating the peace treaty and a set of other agreements. They also criticized its nuclear and missile programs, uranium enrichment and construction of a light-water reactor, violating Resolutions 1718 and 1874 of the UN Security Council. The G8 urged North Korea to create an atmosphere of hexalateral talks.

The next G8 summit will be held in the USA in 2012.
