The Tbilisi Court has ordered the detention of Badri Bitsadze, former
Georgian border police chief and husband of the former Georgian
parliamentary speaker and leader of the People's Assembly opposition
party, Nino Burjanadze, News Georgia reports.
Bitsadze is charged with planning to use violence against public order
or law-enforcers (article 353 of the Criminal Code). He may be
sentenced to 4-7 years imprisonment. He is charged with committing
illegal actions during protests in Tbilisi on May 26.
Nino Burjanadze was informed about the court's decision by Bitsadze's
lawyer, Vaso Samushia.
Bitsadze's current location is unknown.
The Tbilisi Court said that the suspect may be released on bail of
about $60,000. Burjanadze said that she will not pay the sum, out of
solidarity with other detained protesters.
