Over 1,000 Syrian refugees have arrived in Turkey in the last day,
most of whom are being accommodated in tents in Khatay Province. This
brings the number of refugees who have arrived in Turkey in the last
two days to 1,650, RIA Novosti reports.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that Turkey
will not open itself up to Syria. He urged Damascus to avoid using
force against civilians.
Syria has been experiencing disorders in Deraa since mid-March. The
protests spread to other cities, including Latakia, Banias, Homs, Hama
and some outskirts of Damascus. Opposition and human rights activists
say that over 1,200 people have been killed in the disorders. The
Syrian authorities blame armed criminals receiving support from abroad
for the unrest.
