Iran has agreed to send 300,000 tons of oil products to Afghanistan,
Afghan Minister for Trade and Industry Anvarulhak Ahadi said on
Thursday, RIA Novosti reports.
Ahadi had a meeting in Iran with his Iranian counterpart, Mihammad Ali Katebi.
Afghanistan needs 3.1 million tons of oil products annually. The
problem is that Pakistani petrol tankers are attacked by rebels.
Iran was blocking all transit tankers through its territory, saying
that the fuel was being provided for NATO forces. This time Iran
agreed to provide fuel on condition that it will not be used by NATO.
An official deal will be signed within a few days. Fuel supplies, 70%
of which are diesel fuel, will be provided within 21 days of signing
the document.
Afghanistan will pay prices above the average market price.
Ahadi said that talks on fuel supplies will also be held with
Tajikistan, Russia and Kazakhstan.
