Iranian MPs stop impeachment of foreign minister

The Iranian Parliament has stopped the impeachment of Foreign Minister
Ali Akbar Salehi after the resignation of Mohammad Sharif Malekzade,
chairman of the conservatives Vali Ismaili said, Trend reports.


The impeachment document was signed on Tuesday after Salehi had
appointed Malekzade as his deputy for administrative and financial
issues.


Salehi had a meeting at the commission for national security and
foreign policy of the Iranian Parliament and discussed the case. 33
MPs signed the document and support the impeachment.


10 signatures are enough to dismiss the minister.


Sharif Malekzade was appointed as the Secretary General of the Supreme
Council of Iran for foreign affairs by the High Presidential Assistant
and head of the Presidential Administration, Isfandiyar Rahim Mashai.


Malekzade is suspected of corruption and other violations. He became
the Deputy Foreign Minister on June 18.


There have been investigations of corruption. Vice-President Mohammad
Reza Rakhimi, Vice-President Hamid Bagai and some other high ranking
officials have been charged with corruption activities.
