Flexibility will allow a convention on the legal status of the Caspian
Sea to be achieved, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mehdi
Akhundzade said at the talks on development of the convention, Trend
reports.
The deputy minister said that a session will be held in Moscow in a
month and will be devoted to the legal status of the Caspian Sea. He
underlined that the previous meeting brought progress, which needs to
be backed with flexibility.
A framework convention on protection of the Caspian environment was
signed in 2003.
Kazakhstan and Russia signed border deals on the north part of the
Caspian Sea in July 1998. They signed a protocol to the deal in May
2002.
Kazakhstan signed a similar deal and a protocol to it on November 29,
2001, and February 27, 2003, respectively.
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed a document on the crossing
point of their border in the Caspian Sea on May 14, 2003.
