Turkey will provide the National Transitional Council (NTC) of Libya
with $200 million and has urged Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi to leave
the country, Reuters reports.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday at a visit to
the rebel center of Benghazi that Libya must not be separated.
Turkey had economic ties with Muammar Gaddafi before the disorders
started in February. Turkey promised to provide $100 million in June.
Turkey recognizes the NTC.
The conflict in Libya started in mid-February. The UN Security Council
passed a resolution in mid-March, closing Libyan air space to stop
attacks on rebels and the civilian population.
The rebels formed the National Transitional Council in Benghazi on
February 27. It consists of 30 opposition members from eastern parts
of Libya. The NTC is headed by Mustafa Abdul Jalil, former Secretary
of the Supreme People’s Committee of Justice in Libya, a post which he
left on February 26.
