Russia and NATO have confirmed their readiness to cooperate in
anti-missile defense, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen
told a press-conference after the Russian-NATO council in Sochi today.
Rasmussen said that they had discussed the views of all sides. He did
not comment on the establishment of any European anti-missile systems.
Russia has many disagreements on this issue.
Concerning the situation in Libya, Rasmussen said that NATO is
operating according to the mandate of the UN Security Council and
Resolution 1973 to protect the civilian population.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed criticism of French
actions in Libya, such as supplying rebels with arms. Rasmussen said
that they are ready to discuss the operation in Libya with Russia.
The secretary general hopes that Russia and NATO will come to an
agreement on anti-missile defense issues at a summit in Chicago.
