Turkish opposition takes oath

The leading opposition party of Turkey, the Republican People's Party,
has halted its boycott after long negotiations with the ruling Justice
and Development Party and taken the oath in parliament, Trend reports,
referring to CNN Turk.

The Republican People's Party announced a boycott of the new
parliament in protest at the arrest of two party deputies - journalist
Mustafa Balbo and professor of medicine Mehmet Haberala - who were
elected from the party at the June 12 elections to the Majlis.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan on Monday approved a joint document,
enshrining the agreement on legislative initiatives and aimed at
releasing the detained deputies and preventing the recurrence of any
similar situations in the future. The representatives of the PPR,
which has 135 of the 550 seats in the Majlis, took the oath, allowing
them to officially start their activity in the Legislative Council.
