Former street traders of Yerevan are protesting at the government
building and selling fruit. They want the government to lift the ban
for street trading, News Armenia reports.
A protester Alisa Khurshudyan said that many of her family members
were left without income. Renting a spot for trading at a minimarket
costs about $10.8 per day. The territory is small and scarce, she
said.
The protesters say that income from fruit sales will be given to
families that suffer most from the ban. This provokes emigration,
Khurshudyan believes.
Yerevan has started banning all illegal street trading stands. 3,000
spots were provided for trading at markets. Nine minimarket projects
were offered for street traders.
