Libyan government declines US proposals on conflict settlement

The Libyan government has confirmed it had talks with the US but
declined proposals on a settlement of the conflict, Libyan Cabinet
Chairman Ibragim Moussa said, Reuters reports.

The US State Department informed the government that Libyan Leader
Muammar Gaddafi must leave the post.

The civil war in Libya started in February 2011. The country split
into the western part, controlled by Gaddafi, and the eastern part,
controlled by the rebels. The UN Security Council passed a resolution
on Libya on March 17, 2011, introducing a no-fly zone. The resolution
was soon followed by international intervention. NATO took command of
the operation. The alliance attacked Tripoli and Marsa Brega on July
17.
